The group art exhibition entitled Dialectic with the Minoan Art will be inaugurated on Wednesday, October 9th at 19.00 in the afternoon, in the periodic exhibition hall of the Parnassos Literary Association (8, St. George Karitsi Square).

Twenty nine Greek visual artists create works of art inspired by the Minoan civilization, thus declaring their support for the promotion of our cultural heritage on an international level: Yannis Adamakis, Margarita Vasilakou, Nikos Viskadourakis, Dimitra Gounari, Dikaia Despotaki, Maria Ziaka, Sarantis Karavousis, Marigo Kassi, Marina Koutsospyrou, Helen Kyrkilis, Eleni Lyra, Penny Manavi, Michalis Manousakis, Eustratia Machairidis, Cleopatra Moursela, Rouli Boua, Sophia Papadopoulou, Elias Papailiakis, Maria Pastra, Spyridoula Politi, Konstantinos Rammos, Angelos Skourtis, Sotiris Sorogas, Vasilis Soulis, Kostas Spanakis, Yannis Stefanakis, Mary Schina, Despina Tsakni, Alekos Fasianos

This event is part of the activities of the Initiative Committee for the inscription of the Minoan Palaces (Zakros, Knossos Phaistos, Malia, Zominthos, Kydonia) as UNESCO World Monuments, with the aim of raising public awareness of Minoan civilization. In the conditions of today's global environment, the World Heritage faces serious threats and the active participation of civil society, as a "participatory democracy" in sustainable development and in the protection of cultural and natural heritage is considered important according to the Declarations and Resolutions of International Conferences.

The Greek visual artists participating in the exhibition interact with all aspects of Minoan culture and transpose elements of Minoan art into their works, filtered and seen through their unique artistic identity.

The Exhibition space presents five thematic sections (the Minoan palaces, Minoan writing system, the olive tree in Minoan Crete, the technique and themes of Minoan frescoes) in the form of tutorial materials gently group the works of contemporary art, so that the visitor becomes part  of a dialectical relationship which proves that ancient art remains always relevant, provided it is seen through a new prism.

At the same time, the Exhibition incentivizes the visitor to learn more about Minoan art and develop a comprehensive picture of the Minoan civilization which is considered one of the most brilliant of the prehistoric Aegean. Also, a video projection traces the influence of the Evans restorations, which corresponded to the Belle Époque and Art Nouveau eras as well as the modernist movements, on all the so-called Fine Arts resulting in the widespread dissemination of the Minoan culture.

Finally, the uniqueness and the global radiation of the Cretan culture undoubtedly lies at the root of its creation as Odysseus Elytis mentions in one of his last works (The public and the private), because it was created and entered into history not with wars, but into life with the sun in the belly ”As indirectly advocated by all the works of art left to us. From the frescoes onward, where the color perception manifests itself with an innocence that took millennia not  just to rediscover it, but with effort and knowledge to recreate it passing afterwards on to the infinite varied of ring stones, these ova of a magical world”
