Greece, as a country with a predominantly island character, is of particular interest for the development of ports in its territory as a network of preventive action stations to protect the country and its cultural heritage from conventional and / or hybrid threats and the consequences of any kind of disaster.  Corfu and more specifically Corfu Port Authority (CPA) is, based on geographical, organizational as well as operational data, the ideal case study for the research program.

DEFPORTS is a holistic plan of action and development of methodology for the operation of (Organizations) Ports as advanced centers of network strengthening of National Security, Local Resilience in disasters, Regional Sustainability and Cultural protection. The approach of enhanced protection through Ports lies in the choice of preparation, precautionary monitoring, monitoring and threat management.

DEFPORTS, as a multi-level research program, aspires through CPA to establish a road map, which can serve as a model, both for Greek ports and for the ports of the wider region.

In addition to the core, the program has the ability to proceed with risk assessment and submission of proposals in case OLKE wishes to expand to other activities such as supporting the hydrocarbon industry and seaplanes.
