The Chair participates with Assistant Professor Kalliopi Chainoglou, Professor Stavros Katsios and Dr. Ioannis Blatsos in the International symposium on Heritage due to be held on 13 May 2022 in Opole University, Poland.

The Institute of Law Studies of the University of Opole, the Institute of Art History of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU Munich), and the International Society for Research on Art and Cultural Heritage Law (ISCHAL), in cooperation with the 1995 UNIDROIT Convention Academic Project and the Editorial Board of the biannual Santander Art and Culture Law Review (SAACLR), are pleased to welcome you to this international symposium. In recent years, the European Union has taken a number of measures to counter the illicit trade in cultural goods, at both the legislative and political levels. This international symposium seeks to address new perspectives and major challenges faced by the reinforced EU action on trafficking in cultural goods. Since the prohibition and prevention of trafficking in cultural objects has become a priority issue in the current cultural agenda of the EU, we will be investigating the most recent developments in the EU legislation and practice in more depth. Our aim is to critically analyze the operation of the existing EU law and policy instruments, and thoroughly focus on those which offer new insights de lege ferenda. This symposium will be providing an insight into existing institutions and their methodologies for combating the trafficking of cultural goods. Subsequently, the comparative analysis of the various national legislative measures, as well as the aspect of enforcement within EU Member States will be investigated. Lastly, the international circulations of cultural goods, related issues, and possible solutions will be addressed and discussed.
