The Greek National Section of the International Council of Folk Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF®) partner of UNESCO, the Ionian University and the Educational and Cultural Association of Sinion - member of CIOFF® - organized a cultural two-day event, on November 19 and 20, at the Spiritual Center of I.M. Corfu, Paxos and Diapontia Islands.
The cultural two-day event is part of the pre-festival events of the CIOFF® International Festival of Mediterranean Cultures, which will take place in Corfu September 6-10, 2023. 16 Mediterranean countries, members of the global CIOFF®, will participate, where they will present traditional music, dances and their national repertoire, with traditional costumes and accompanied by national musical instruments.
The central actions of the two-day event included a scientific round table (November 20, 10.30 am, open to the public and local cultural associations), on the topic: "Folk festivals and the promotion of cultural heritage through them".
The invited speakers of the round table were Ms. Panagiota Andrianopoulou, Ethnologist-Folkographer, Head of the Department of Collections, Research and Documentation of Folk Art/Museum of Newer Greek Culture-Ministry of Culture, Ms. Renata Dalianoudi, Musicologist and Dr. Ethnomusicology, Assistant Professor at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts and Representative of the Ionian University for the Festival of Mediterranean Cultures 2023, Mr. Stavros Katsios, Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University, holder of the UNESCO chair and Mr. Enrih Merdic, Professor University of Osijek, Vice President of CIOFF® Southern Europe Sector, President of CIOFF® Croatia, dance teacher and choreographer. The Interpreters were students of the Interpreting Section of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University.
The subject of Professor Stavros Katsios' presentation was "The folklore festival as a toolbox for the protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage"
